In January 2017, I faced a decision: stay the course or change my life through diet and exercise. Since then, I’ve lost over 100 pounds, run nine half marathons and one full marathon, burned out, regained a lot of the weight I lost, faced the loss of family and friends, and started to rebuild. Cor Invictum, the Unconquerable Heart, is where I write honestly about all of it, one week at a time. First time here? Start with the seven-part Path to Unconquerable below.
The story, in order
Part I: A New Beginning: why I started writing again after ten years of sharing on Facebook.
Part II: Looking Back: the years before I started, and the December 2016 turning point.
Interlude: Detours and Starting Lines: my first marathon, told out of order.
Part III: The First Two Years: 2017 to 2019, tracking food and losing over 100 pounds.
Part IV: There and Back Again: a long commute, my fastest half marathon and a heart scare.
Part V: Marathon Man: four months of training for 26.2.
Part VI: After the Finish Line: the slide that followed the marathon.
Part VII: Broken to Unconquerable: loss, burnout and the decision to start over.
Epilogue: where the story lands, and why Cor Invictum.
Where I am now
Every week I write Being Unconquerable: #1 Kickoff, #2 Pork and Beans, #3 Times Like These, #4 Walk and #5 Little Things (my latest post).
